How to Prepare for a Pelvic Exam if You’re a Sexual Assault Survivor

Really helpful.

I still haven’t been, but it makes me more inclined to want to go.

The Not Rape Epidemic

If you want to post your experiences with not rape, go on and do it. Anony is on, so it is a safe place if that’s what you choose. Also, the essay is very much worth the read. You can even browse the responses by the ‘not rape’ responses tag.

10 Creepy, Sexy Fairy Tales That Should Be Films

fuckyeahfairytales:

I’m with io9 on this one. Instead of going after the same old fairy tales, Hollywood should look for some other material. Rapunzel, Vasilisa the Beautiful (a Russian tale I absolutely love), the original Nutcracker tale, Tam Lin, Bluebeard, Arabian Nights and some myths made the list. Great read.

The Red Shoes, please.

Today, senior editor Cord Jefferson notes that the Norwegian killings shouldn’t be seen by anyone as points on scoreboard:

It’s easy to gloat right now. It’s easy for liberals to mock right-wing zealots. It’s easy for atheists to mock the faithful. It’s easy for Muslims to mock Christians. But what we forget, amid all that mocking, is that that sort of demeaning hatred is why Norway is reeling in the first place, why nearly 100 Norwegians, many of them children, are today dead too soon.
This isn’t to say that people shouldn’t learn lessons from Breivik’s attack. In fact, it should be remembered forever, like 9/11, and talked about in classrooms from elementary to college. But to use people’s lives, the loss of them specifically, as leverage to try prove a political point is downright sick. There were no wins or losses on Friday. There was only loss.

Gays against Gaga: A note from a reader

I doubt you’ll accept this post but really, this is too much. Lady Gaga is said to be a gay superstar not because she is said to be gay, but because she represents them. And for you to be turning down support from someone with such a big name is fucking stupid. Consider this: even if you don’t…

About

My name is Adri and I currently live in Austin, Texas.

This blog is my personal blog where I put my things and stuff. I discuss rape relatively openly and this is a trigger warning that this blog could potentially be triggering for survivors. I do try to put trigger warnings on the posts and I'm starting to make them after the break posts as well, though I will admit that I am too lazy to backtrack all of my posts ever. And I'll also admit that I don't always toss trigger warnings on things. I'm a budding feminist and so I tend to post feminist things here as well.

I plan on going to medical school in a few years after I get my bachelor's in Biochem, and with that I have the separate page Diary of a would be Medical Examiner (ME).

I tend to like things on my phone, it serves as a bookmark to read them later. I reblog and try to cite resources. I'm open to messaging both anony and public.

I posted a tag page if you want to browse by my tags.

Much love. ♥ Adri
